7 Steps To Getting 1000 Unique Visitors In Under 3 Months
Easy to follow 7 step process to get thousands of website visitors.
As some of you may know Kyle and I are currently challenging each other to see who can reach 1,000 unique visitors with our personal websites first.
Here is my exact strategy... You're welcome Kyle.
How Do I Select My Pillar Keywords?
What is a Pillar Keyword? Often discussed while talking about pillar pages. These are the foundational subtopics on your website. The things that support or hold up the website itself.
In order to select them or target said pillar keywords you just need to create categories or topics that you think will support your business, service, product, blog. If you still are having a hard time pivot your thinking to what you want to write about.
I'm going to run through an example as I walk through the steps below. In order to do that you need to know some of my categories.
Something I want to write about is how to scale a business. It is an area of knowledge that I have grown in over the years and it's something I sought out prior to my most recent SaaS company.
So with that being said, a pillar phrase or category will be 'scaling a business'. Now this isn't necessarily one that I would recommend off the jump because there are a lot of ways to read/write this type of phrase. Scaling a business, business, scaling, business scalability, etc. Not too mention it's context can be all over the place. But like I said I have a desire to write about it which means I'll enjoy it and be able to provide genuine value for readers which is always priority uno. I'll get cheeky with the traffic elsewhere (SEE BELOW).
Process To Getting Website Traffic
This is the exact process that I've used at my marketing tech company. Getting clients thousands of visitors to their websites for an extremely low budget. Not only that but the process is flexible in terms of quantity vs. quality. You can choose to dial back the frequency and hone in on the value or go to absolute town and create a boat load of blogs.
1. Target High Value But Low Competition Keywords
Utilize a tool such as Uber Suggest for keyword ideas. There are a multitude of tools that work for this part. Moz, SemRush, Ahrefs, whatever your preference is. Here we want to start with our pillar keywords and enter them into the keyword research or suggestion tool.
We're looking for low competition - high volume keywords. No surprise here... Often easier said then done. The keyword doesn't need to be amazing but it does have to be contextual. What I mean by that is it's relevant to what the website.
Here 'Business Scale' is listed. This phrase is relevant to my pillar phrase of scaling a business and is certainly an opportunity for me to take advantage of the unique phrasing.
2. Create Blog Ideas Based On Target Keywords
This part is once again cut and dry. Some ideas will be easy or natural but if we want to be truly cheeky we can milk this keyphrase for all it's worth.
Think of multiple blogs that will utilize that keyword. If you can't, go to Answer The Public and enter that same keyword. This tool will give you all the questions, queries, comparisons, etc. that use said keyphrase. Amazing. Should come out of it with at least a few ideas.
"How do I build a business of Scale?"
"What does business of scale mean?"
"5 Steps To Target The Optimal Business Scale and Size"
and so on...
Be mindful of keyword cannibalization while you do this. We want to rank for this keyword but don't want content that competes with one another. Ideally our ideas are different enough that a visitor would know which to go to for their question.
In my three examples above. The first is a classic "how to", the second a "definition", and the third a more unique and specific question.
3. Sanity Check - Manual Google Search Time
This one is optional but strongly recommended when you first start the process.
You should have a good idea of what it takes to stand out for these keyphrases. Quite literally go to Google and type it in via an incognito browser. What shows up? Which blog title jumped out to you first? How long are the top ranking blogs? Are there any flashy images being used? What headings can we use to support our blog?
Ask yourself some of these questions and make sure you can find your way through the noise.
4. If You're Not Using AI Content Writing Then You're Behind
This one is simple. If you aren't already taking advantage of AI Content Writing then you're behind...
My personal favourite is Jasper for this task. Simple to use, helpful recipes, solid Chrome extension. Would strongly recommend it!
Be sure to think about supporting keywords before you let the AI loose. I prefer to write my own title and headlines so the structure / value of the blog isn't lost. Beyond that the AI can do the heavy lifting. In my example above I was able to pull together all 3 blog ideas, with 1200+ words per blog, in under 45 minutes. This included a featured image and internal links.
5. Audit Your Written Content For On-Page Search Engine Optimization
We have our content written but may be missing a few more opportunities. Quite simply grab your blog and run it through a content optimizer.
SurferSEO is my go to here.
Super simple to use again and provides cut and dry improvements per blog.
You can even set it up to constantly monitor pillar pages for you. Great for staying above the competition.
6. How To Setup On-Page SEO For Your Blog?
We have the target keyword, we have the content, we know it's optimized, now we just have to load it into the website and make sure everything lines up. This part could be an entirely new blog but just make sure everything looks good according to your content management system.
If you're on WordPress, I like Yoast SEO for this.
Setup the following things:
- Target Keyword
- SEO Title
- Meta Description
- Alt Tags
- Featured Image
- Excerpt
- Permalink & Slug
I have a full blog that walks you through how to write a SEO Friendly blog here or a quick SEO Blog Post Checklist you can download.
7. How To Create Simple Link Development For a New Website
This is what I like to call the rotation. We have a content process and should be able to churn these out very quickly.
Next we want to develop some backlinks. These can be done in two ways; guest posting or link insertions.
A Guest Post is the idea of you writing a blog for someone else's website. Often times a website will allow 1-3 dofollow links as a trade for the content.
A Link Insertion is a direct purchase of placing a link on a pre-existing website paeg. These are great for high-context blogs where your product or service would make sense. There are also more expensive as they already have domain rating and traffic (most likely).
For our strategy we will do the following:
- Create 5 blog posts surrounding our targeted keyword
- Post 4 fully optimized blogs internally
- Go to a site such as icopify.com and search for a relevant website.
- Purchase a guest post slot for anywhere from $5 to $30 based on the domain authority and dofollow links allowed
- Take the 5th blog and convert it into the guest post
- Build in the 3 dofollow links back to our favourite internal blogs that we just wrote
Summary for How To Get 1000 Unique Visitors In Under 3 Months
To summarize, we want to pick the right keywords. Ensure we can create long-tailed and magnetic blogs that support said keyword. Identify competitive requirements to rank, followed by speedy and valuable AI writing. Audit and optimize our content one last time. And lastly, build in as many backlinks as possible early on.
